Centennial Hotel
In 1864, Mills and Douglas operated a restaurant and hotel on this corner. Mills and Culbertson went into partnership in 1877, opening a new establishment called the Centennial Hotel in celebration of the United States’ hundredth birthday. Robert S. Culbertson became full owner in 1881. The hotel was rebuilt of brick in 1883 and renamed the Pacific Hotel, also known as the Culbertson House. Ownership passed to Culbertson’s daughter, Esther Casey, and the family operated the hotel until the 1940s.
