I started calling "here piggy piggy" and even though Javelina are peccaries and may take offense at being called pigs, this young fellow/gal started walking up to me. At this point he (or she?) was a little too close for comfort so I started jumping up and down and waving my arms (they have bad eyesight). At that point he/she turned and ran away. This herd visited my camp each night and woke me up with their rooting around looking for food. Although one of their natural foods in this canyon is probably acorns from the many oak trees, they will eat just about anything and may have been attracted by the smell of bacon fat I had dumped in the fire pit.
