My Uncle Bud found this rifle east of his brother's place (Raymond's) and donated it to the museum in Chester. You see the old west was prevalent where our land was. The bison and wagons would have passed by here. According to my Aunt Lena when they moved here in 1913 there were still quite a few bison trails (they called them buffalo but bison is the correct terminology).
There were also tepee rings. She thinks mostly because there was a spring within a mile and 1/2 of the house. She also recalls finding bison horns. Captain Lewis in 1806 wrote about a large amount of bison in Dugout Coulee which is pretty close to the ranch. Aunt Lena wrote: "I was so afraid of Indians - suppose they left with the buffalo because I never saw either in that country."
