Palatki is a Hopi word meaning something like "red house", an altogether appropriate name. It is nestled at the base of Red Rock Canyon's cliffs.
The site was built around 1150 and abandoned around 1300, based on tree-ring dating, when most of the Colorado Plateau was being abandoned. However, some Sinaguan refugees hung on in the area until around 1450.
