I like these gates; we never had anything fancy like that except for Uncle Larry. I like how they use the ocotillo branches for fencing, it seems fairly hardy.

Ralph Wingfield eventually supplied cattle for the movie “Red River” starring John Wayne and the two men became good friends.

Wayne was a frequent visitor to the Guevavi Ranch, where he and Ralph would stay up late at night playing gin rummy. They also went on many family vacations together. The month before Wayne died of cancer in 1979, Ralph and Marjorie sailed to Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California with John and Pilar Wayne. When they returned to the harbor, Wayne gave Wingfield his Stetson hat, casually saying, “It looks better on you.”
