to our right or north is Rising Wolf, such a big and pretty mountain. Mahkuyi-opuahsin, the Blackfeet name of this remarkable peak, means "The way the wolf gets up," and on a warm summer day immediately brings to mind wonderful visualizations at the unfolding of a lazy wolf as it comes slowly to its feet.

Rising Wolf Mountain is the beast of the Two Medicine Area. It is truly a massive mountain. In other parts of the world it may be referred to as a massif, a large mountain mass. It sheer size alone demands attention.

Rising Wolf Mountain is named for Hugh Monroe who was adopted into the Blackfeet community by Chief Lone Walker. He was named Rising Wolf because of his habit of rising out of bed on his hands and knees. Rising Wolf was married to Sinopah.
