| no partners | | | Arrived at the trailhead around 10:30 Saturday morning and began what would become one of my favorite hikes. My Mom and Dad jumped on board when I told them there would be a lake in a pine forrest 7600 feet above sea level. As soon as we exited the car we were overwhelmed by the magnificent aroma of the pine trees. The trail is well marked and easy to follow as it leads you down a series of switchbacks toward the lake. The lake reminds me of a Bob Ross painting surrounded by many "happy little trees". The day before I went to a sporting goods store and bought two five piece fishing poles and some tackle that fit perfectly into our packs. We immediately saw schools of trout and that five piece became a functioning one piece faster than you can imagine. We were fishing for an hour or so and I decided to walk along the lake in hopes of better fishing. I wasn't gone for more than two minutes when my Dad yelled "Holy C**P Matt look at this" I came running over and a snake was swimming in the lake. Bare in mind this was pretty cool but what made it even better is that my Dad is terrified of snakes. You can imagine the joking around that ensued. So there we were on the edge of a beautiful lake high on the Mogollon rim with my Mom enjoying the scenery and my Dad and I fishing making for a memorable day. P.S. Thankyou Grasshopper for the help-I posted pictures of elk I saw close to the lake on a previous hike I did in Sept. 09 on the Babe Haught Trail starting at the Tonto Fish Hatchery. |
