We parked close to Lizard Rock and started off on our route. We've done the Outback a few times, but for some odd reason I didn't want to follow the normal "easy" route. Instead, we bushwhacked through some pretty awful stuff over to the Outback. When we got close to the Outback someone asked me how far we had gone. He was guessing about 2 or 2.5 miles. Nope, not even a mile!
We scrambled up to the top of the Outback and quickly enjoyed the views before we were nearly blown off. The views are definitely worth all the struggles.
From there we headed up a drainage up to the top of Green Mountain and signed the log book. I looked back through the entries and found that Joel and I had first been on the top of Green Mountain on May 19, 2007 with the Southern Arizona Hiking Club.
We came off Green Mountain using a well defined route to the Upper Green Mountain Trailhead. This route is extremely steep and has a lot of loose rock/dirt.
Luckily, no one complained regarding the crazy route. I had posted the hike as an Advanced Bushwhack - which no one could deny! I think I won the award for the most blood lost which is crazy since someone else was wearing shorts!
Overall, it was an awesome hike! |
