Last time I tried to find this trail we got lost and drove (if you can call it that) for hours up and down various forks that would make for good mountain biking (not good for a vw gti). This time we took a pathfinder and found the trailhead, though we probably should have left the car 2 mi. before cause we could have walked faster than the pathfinder was able to go on these really f*cked up roads.
The hike down was quite steep and challenging. Wearing a 40 lb pack on my back, had to take it real slow because the trail was steep and footing was often loose. The hike involves some bouldering (nothing too difficult, but having a backpack made it more difficult and the retriever had to be coaxed/helped on numerous occassions).
Luckily the trail was short. Also got lucky that the only other people there were leaving as we approached the campsite. The water was beautiful (though the outside temp wasn't quite warm enough to warrant a swim) and the campsite was great (fire ring, benches, tent spots). Good amount of various flowers and agave in bloom. |
