| partners | | Our hike began on South Kaibab around 6:30 pm with the sun setting in the West and the Canyon full of color. Watched the moon rise near the rest house at the Tonto Trail turn off. The full moon gave us quite a show rising amongst the clouds. We reached bottom just before 10:30 pm where we rested nearly an hour before our the journey out. While the moon was quite obscured while we were resting up, the trip out Bright Angel was well lit by moonlight. Bright Angel may well be one of my favorite trails and made even more beautiful by moonlight and nearly empty of hikers. Came out of the canyon just about 5:00 am, watched the canyon light up with morning sunlight, and moon still in the sky. Wildlife spotted while on the trail were mule deer, ringtail cats (thanks to a a hiking partners keen eyesight), a scorpion, and a few frogs. |
