Had a nice day near Prescott for Tanya's birthday. Wrangled up 6 friends of ours, and we started off from Metate Trailhead, marveling in the habitable outside temps (for once). As we started climbing to the first wooded saddle, dark clouds swirled and a couple thunderbooms came over the mountain, so we decided to find some cover and assess. Thankfully, the clouds soon lumbered to the north and away from us. Up we continued, and into the forest. We left the Granite Mountain trail for the peak and picked our way across the drainage. Hopping up to the first escarpment allowed the inaguaral scrambling for the day - good stuff. The solid granite made scrambling a blast, but the brush around there did not :? . Well, it is arizona, just part of the territory, right?

The final push to the summit appeared. Eric took the direct line (of course), while Brian and I found a less-brushy scrambling route. Thank goodness for friction climbing practice...the girls found a far more sensible route which offered some moderate scrambling. And the view on top? Awesome. Pretty good 360 views from there, nothing really high to block your sight. Could see Harquahala Mtn, Humphreys Peak, and Hualapai Peak all in the same view. Not bad. Jen and Ari were on their first scramble ever, so we took care heading down the rock and brush maze. Down by susnet and off to the brewery (of course) we went for Tanya's birthday. Nothing like a fresh Liquid Amber straight from the source...
