| no partners | | Great way to start 2012! It is opening season for archery so my husband wanted to hike/hunt. Basically hike with his bow in tow Didn't want to go far so opted for First Water Trailhead.
Did the loop in reverse. Headed up Second Water and hooked it left towards the old horse corral to follow the creek while the sun was still not up. Found some deer tracks here and there. Nothing to get excited about though. Beyond the horse corral we hopped back and forth along the creek as it actually has water in it! My husband was a few steps in front of me when I heard him say, "Holy crap!" He had pushed through some reeds following a faint trail at the bottom of the slick hill North of the corral and almost stepped on a dead deer! She was stiff as a board! There was clumps of hair on the ground and we looked up the hill and could see clumps stuck to the rock above us! Guess she fell from the top! Maybe something chased her? Who knows. It was just really weird. Onward we went shaking our heads...
The rest of the hike was uneventful but beautiful! Got back to the trailhead and saw a Forest Service guy by the restrooms so I told him that we found a dead deer on the trail. That there was clumps of fur on the rock above, etc... he walked behind my car and wrote down my license plate number! I guess if Game and Fish contact me I will know why! Geez! I was just hoping that he would drag if off of the trail a ways! Moral of the story...if something smells in a few days in that vacinity you know what it is! |
