| no partners | | I've always wondered if it's possible to go up Monument Canyon and make it around and up to Flatiron. That was the plan for the day. But first I wanted to go up the ridge in Monument Canyon where the plane wreck happened so many years ago. The bushwhacking is much nicer with long pants on. My other two visits here were in shorts. Scrambled up the ravine with some of the wreckage in it to the ridgeline in the center of the canyon. There are pieces of wreckage on top and down both sides of the ridge. From there I headed up the ridge toward the cliffs at the head of the canyon. Getting across the head of the canyon and around the corner towards Flatiron is a bit of work. Once I got around the base of the cliffs of Flatiron there is a trail that takes you over to the Siphon Draw trail, or as I did up to the edge of Flatiron. I checked out the view of Monument Canyon I had just climbed from Flatiron then headed over to Superstition Peak 5024. I returned down Siphon Draw to Jacobs Crsscut and back to the Broadway trailhead. Some poppies are blooming and other flowers, but not many. Nice day cool hike. |
