Note about this loop- Head up Soldier's Pass. Go right on Brin's Mesa Trail. Going Southeast on this trail, you actually pass the Jordan TH parking lot and continue down the road to find Cibola Pass trail on your right. (i.e. you may wonder where on earth Cibola was when you find a parking lot) Hike down Cibola Pass and you will run in to Jordan Trail, which will take you back to Soldier's Pass Trail and TH.
The hike was fun with beautiful weather. Views were better than expected, satisfying as my first real hike in Sedona's open country.
Lots of people as expected at the Sinkhole and 7 Pools. Beyond that, few people. We did get confused after the 7 Pools as to where the trail was. Many Jeep trails there. Luckily we picked the right one, or maybe they all lead to the trail?
Once we did the climbing on Soldier's Pass (and I would suggest going up this way as the footing is better than on Brin's Mesa-- of course, going down can be bad as well on loose stuff), the Mesa was really nice. Views everywhere.
We connected with Brin's Mesa Trail and headed back on that trail to make the loop. Spotting a funny plateau among the juniper, we headed over and had lunch on the giant rock table on the Mesa. Fun. I didn't want to ever come down!
Finished the loop in time for the sunset which is just ridiculously beautiful up there.
Cheers. |
