My GF(Vicky) and I made the trip up to Colorado Springs To visit her family and make a scenic roadtrip of the venture. On the way back we visted Canyon De Chelly and traveled the length of the southern canyon. The indians are sure to be at every stop trying to sell you the crafts they work on. The resevation(no matter which one) is sure to be an interesting place. Not in a bad way, but not in a good. They really are soviergn nations. Any way, we were lucky enough to make it to spider rock at sunset and it was an absolutely astounding place. There were a few other people and conversation was started with a couple from california. They were there visiting the brother of the wife who lived in Chinle and was very connected with his native culture. It was a humbling experience as he began to describe the legend of the Spider Woman from which the rock gets its name as the Sun set. Im not one for religion or belief, but it was a spiratual experience to be there in those settings and listen to the story and imagine how the Native's visualized there surroundings and life. It was a great way to wrap up the trip before making the drive back to Phoenix.
