A combined 4x4 off-road and hiking adventure. A convoy of 7 vehicles met at 7:30am at the abandoned Texaco station at Florence Junction. The trekkers made it to the Coke Ovens by lunch time. Had time to check out some geo-caches in Box Canyon.

Our convoy of 7 vehicles; led by John's red Jeep, Eric's Toyota pick-up, Steve K's Jeep Cherokee, Steve W's custom jeep with Vette engine, Duane's white Jeep, Cindy's yellow Jeep, and the Guy's from Honeywell white Samari.

Cautionary tale about the importance of traveling in 2 or more vehicles as we had a tire bead pop over the rim on a particularly nasty series of rocky steps. Repair on the road of Steve K's popped tire bead.

Should also mention the bizarre meeting of an older couple wandering up Box Canyon. They indicated that their rental vehicle was hung-up on some rocks a couple of miles back and asked if they could get a ride (and a push). Unbelievable, but these tourists from upstate California only had a Saturn SL passenger vehicle! Don't know how that car made it as far as it had up Box Canyon from the Gila River. All I can say is "It's a rental"...
