| no partners | | | El Capitan was my first attempt at canyoneering. There were three of us, me (Mike), my girlfriend Addie, and our friend BJ. We took a little longer than most people would to complete this adventure since it was our first forey into the sport, not to mention BJ's first ever experience in the backcountry. There was very little water, only two significant pools that we had to slog through, and two other puddles that we could avoid altogether. We wound up rappelling 5 times to get through, the first rap could've been downclimbed, however it presented an excellent teaching opportunity for BJ. We completed our hike on 5/27/11, and the bugs were out in force. Tons of wasps, however, no one got stung to our surprise. |
