My Great Grand parents homesteaded here in the early 1910's, before starting a shoe shop and photography studio, it was call Nicoley photography studio.
My great Grand mother was curator at the historical museum for many years, probably 20+, and my grandma worked at the famous Tee Pee curio shop on Route 66, I have fond memories of Summer time visits and wondering along the boulevard, before the I-40 bypass was built and before crime and drug use, always the demise of these small towns. This area is rich in geological, historical and natural history.
My father is in charge of the National Wind Research laboratory at the local college(if you visit, you'll see the wind turbine) and assisted in building the Mesalands Dinosaur museum, I indeed have a love/hate relationship with this place. |
