After two nights of waiting for our backcountry permit, my wife and I descended on the South Kaibab Trail. The hike down was uneventful and although I have never used trekking poles, I was grateful to have a pair as they saved my knees.
We arrived at Bright Angel Campground and set up our gear. My wife and I spent two nights alongside the beautiful Bright Angel Creek. The weather was perfect and I was able to spend our free day, exploring and fly fishing the creek.
After our two nights, we ate early and packed our gear. We set out by 7:15 and cruised through the first 6 miles of the Bright Angel Trail. The last three miles were definitely the longest, but we took our time and enjoyed the cool canyon air. We topped out around 2PM and basked in our accomplishment. A truly great experience and a wonderful way to spend our spring break. |
