| no partners | | My friend Katie and I embarked on yet another San Rafael Swell adventure to hike the Ding & Dang Canyons Loop, http://www.ajroadtrips.com/go/t/utah/sa ... l/dingdang . We didn't have to deal with any significant obstacles in Ding, but Dang proved more problematic. Only two things prevented us from completing our intended loop, fear and common sense. Actually, though, it was discretion which won the day. I knew there were several obstacles of unknown difficulty in Dang Canyon that could prove daunting for neophyte canyoneers of the Katie and LaFong ilk. I expect we probably could have completed the route, but when we got to the first obstacle, a dry fall, we were reluctant to commit to the down climb without knowing what lay ahead. Had we been in the company of an experienced canyoneer such as REDROXX44 (HINT, HINT), I/we wouldn't have hesitated for a second to brave the last of Dang. Even though we got the dreaded DNF for our efforts, both canyons were so beautiful and FUN that the humiliation of DNFing dissipated almost to nothing in a mere five or six years. |
