| no partners | | My friend Tom suggested a spur of the moment hike and I jumped on board. The sources we used show different mileage 6.5 to 7.5.Tom's gps showed 7.9 when we got to East Baldy trailhead so I'll go with it.We started out in Greer, crossed the LCR,and went up and up.We kept an eye out for the sharp switchback Elizabeth warns about. There is a carin there now and you can see the other trail you don't want to take to the left.Almost all of your climbing is in this first climb. The trail is in pretty good shape but does a have a few faint spots from time to time. The fire really took a toll on this area. There are some area's spared and tons of baby Aspen comming in from 2-6 feet. Many trees still standing for shade. There was a couple side trails at the 3.5 mile mark and 1 or 2 more so the gps was good to verify our direction. Some nice meadows but no animals except for cows.We had set up a shuttle car at East Baldy and hit FR273 just left of it as planned. The weather was great as was the company! Thanks to Tom for picking this one and hiking along.
(note)The back road to Greer(7miles)from 273 has been worked on and is ok for cars(Ford Focus) |
