Celebrated by finally completing a reverse SoMo entering a Desert Classic via the Ray Road Access Trail and shredding the trail at a high rate of speed (for me anyways) non-stop to the Pima TH. Travelled west along the Highline Urban Trail to Central Avenue. Had to punt a pit bull in the head that chased me along Central Avenue. South Mountain Park had traffic backed up the entrance - discovered the park access was closed for an early morning marathon run and would be opening in about 20 minutes. Ranger must have taken pity on me and about half a dozen other bikers patiently waiting - he waved us through giving us San Juan Road pretty much to ourselves.
Continued along the normally closed section of San Juan Road all the way to the lookout. Took the Maricopa Trail (check out http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/MaricopaT ... w-8x11.pdf and http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/MaricopaTrail/ ) over to Laveen and joined back onto South Mountain Park to continue my loop home. |
