Beginning on the Bell Rock Pathway, we intersect with the Little Horse Trail at 1/4 mile and followed the basket cairns across a dry stream bed and then up to a large flat expanse. Turn to the right here; the trail leads into a stand of Arizona Cypress and intersects a trail on the left coming from the Chapel as it nears the "Madonna and Nuns" spires. At 1.4 miles you will pass through a gate. Continue for 150 yards passing the base of the knobs of Chicken Point on the left. Take the path left for a short climb up to Chicken Point and expansive views! This point is used by Pink Jeep Tours so we will need to stay out of their parking area and camera shots! Chicken Point was named by the Pink Jeep Tours because in the past they used to dare each other to park the Jeeps as close to the edge as possible--with passengers inside! Due to liability, they are no longer allowed to do this!
Directions: Take I-17 North to exit 298 Sedona/179, go left through the Village of Oak Creek. Keep going past Bell Rock and turn Right just before milepost 310 into the Little Horse and Bell Rock Pathway parking lot. Restroom at trailhead. RED ROCK PASSES REQUIRED $5 PER VEHICLE. We will stop at the Ranger Station on the way in for passes. |
