| no partners | | I had driven by and admired the giant roadrunner along I-10 west of Las Cruces for years, so I finally decided to stop and check it out. It was located at the rest area on the eastbound side (which is only accessible to eastbound travelers). I say was because it disappeared later in 2011. It had been there for many years and was getting worse for wear riding out wind, hail, and souvenir hunters, so the artist who created it (Olin Calk) decided it was time to refurbish the big Paisano. As of this date (2-2-2014) it still has not reappeared, but rumor has it that it may get back to its former spot sometime in 2014. Hope so!
Cindy and I went back over there a couple weeks later to do some hiking and delve more into the Hermit story, and she enjoyed a stop to see it as well. A pretty cool creation made from recycled materials I'd say. |
