Started from the road (forgot which number but it's south of Swamp Point Road and leads to Point Sublime eventually) nearest Lancelot Point. Walked through the pines and (sometimes) locust for about 3 miles to Lancelot Point. Some have mentioned an old road to LP but I never saw it. Awesome views from Lancelot Point overlooking the Shinumo Amphitheater! Many features in view: Elaine Castle, Bass' Tomb, King Arthur and Guinevere Castles, Excalibur, etc... Even all the way across to Mt. Huethawalli.
Found a semi-cairned route off of LP down to the Elaine-Lancelot Saddle. Was told by a ranger that this route is very brushy but it actually wasn't bad at all. Elaine Castle is supposedly class 3 on the north side. Looks impossible from LP. From the saddle I headed down the unnamed drainage towards Modred (sometimes spelled Mordred) Abyss. Searched around a bit before finding a route through the Supai. Looked like there was only one spot through(to the right of a large pillar on creek-left). After that the Redwall break was pretty straight forward. Also the canyon started to narrow at the start of the Redwall. Was expecting to get cliffed-out but everything went smooth. Water starts flowing from another drainage to the north-east. This is also where the Muav layer appears. Had to climb down several Muav cascades but they were all easy. Just like slippery stairs. Got a little brushy as I neared the confluence of Modred. Modred has a pretty good flow of water here. Continued on up Modred until I found Abyss Cave. This place has been on my radar for a couple of years and it didn't disappoint! Crystal clear cold water pouring out of the cave. I drank it straight from the collecting pool without treating it. Awesome! I tried to hang out for a while but the cave area is well protected by ants. They were literally jumping from the trees and landing on me. I headed back up to the rim the same way.
