| no partners | | | Started out with the intention of going all the way to Bridal Veil Falls, only made it as far as the gap. I read the posted description of this hike prior to heading out and it said the first couple of miles were relatively flat. Um, it pretty much an all up hill hike. You don't realize it because other than a few steep areas it pretty gradual until you get to the end. It was more noticeable when hiking back down. (Killed my knee on this one.) Even though we did not make our goal of the falls, the Gap was nice and cool with a very pleasant breeze. There was a nice little waterfall across from the gap coming down Esperero wash that was flowing pretty good. I would like to know more history of the area as on that last leg up there is an over hang to the east that has some rocks that look like the were cut into squares; definitely man made looking. It took us four hours to climb up, but then I do lollygag around and take pictures, and three hours coming down. That is not only due to playing around taking pictures, but my knee was on fire with every step. Oh, and I spent some time taking a few pictures (with a telephoto lens) of a rattler that gave fair warning when I got to close in the Bird Canyon wash. |
