| partners | | first time visit to organ pipe cactus national monument
randy had invited angela to go camping, then our social director invited a few others
ended up with a fun group
arrived mid saturday morning and set up tents
drove to the trailhead on the scenic ajo mountain drive
a nice view of the arch from the trailhead, and a good trail halfway to the arch
from there more of a cairned use trail
karl, amy and i made it up to an overlook, and then followed some random cairns up to a high point
saw the others and dropped back down to the overlook
kathy had seen the arch opening so that we could find the correct ravine to access the arch
steep drop with some loose dirt and scree, but not too bad
the arch is huge
we had some lunch while enjoying the views
breezy and cool in the arch, and temps were nice all day
went back to the trailhead and had plenty of snacks and beverages as we finished setting up camp
a very nice intro to the ajo mountains |
