| no partners | | I took the day off to take Lynn and Skippy on their first visit to West Fork of Oak Creek. Sent Tobyn off to high school in the morning and hit the road 8-ish and arrived at the TH at 10:30am. Sedona is a massive construction site that unexpectedly slowed progress to the trail. We paid our $8 and we were off on our trek. The parking lot was half full (surprised me, I expected the lot to be almost empty for a mid-week hike).
Inspected the ruins and poked our way along some of the pools while letting the dog have a swim (he had a ball). We made it to the log jam area (listed ~ 2.75 miles from TH) when clouds and booming thunder made us think about turning around. The return to the trail head was punctuated by thunder reverberating through the canyon reminding us to keep a faster pace.
A spectacular hike as always! Also encountered some wildflowers along the way I'd never seen before (hope the pics turn out to attempt an ID).
Mental note to self to take a mid-week day off in October to come back and take in the Fall colours... |
