Went out on a morning hike before heading to a birthday brunch party for my friend. I saw 3 snakes on the trek. The first snake was a newborn dback. I saw resting in the shade. Instead of photographing it right away, I took my time and was trying to figure out how I can photograph it and experiment with different camera settings.

By the time, I was ready to photograph it, it took off into the debris. I didn't expect it to move so fast. I didn't want to lose the pic, so like a gentlemen, I sifted through the debris to photograph it, but INSTEAD, I found juvenile dback - one that I would not have seen if the first snake didn't take off. So I photographed that one and gave up on the first one.

I later caught a coachwhip, my 38th of the year! I got hot quickly, but I was able to see 3 snakes before the party and see 311 snakes this year, including 90 dback. Only 3 snakes out of 311 were too quick for my camera.
