Bog Springs is at about half of the elevation gain. It looked like there were a few potential spots to put down a tent there, so I gave my daughter the option of stopping for the day and going back the way we came the next morning. She wanted to make it all the way up so we kept going. It was slow going, but we made it to Kent Springs about 20 minutes before sunset. There's a grassy area with an old fire ring behind Kent Springs and that's where we set up for the night. The next morning was all downhill with a lot of loose rocks. I had to hold her hand to keep her from falling on the steep parts. We both agreed Sylvester Springs was the best of the three. Overall, I think this was just the right level of challenge for my daughter. She felt a real sense of accomplishment having finished the hike. Being the high point of the hike, Kent Springs is a good place to camp if you're doing a short backpacking trip with kids. |
