Buck Prairie trail system gets consistent snow from late November through mid-April. The conditions on this day were excellent, with snow falling the entire time we were out. The trails aren't groomed, but they get enough use to find well-structured ski tracks. Another plus about Buck Prairie is that snow mobiles are prohibited. So on a weekday, this is a quiet place to explore in the fresh snow. Most of the trails are intermediate difficulty with simple gradients. You can link many trails together with opportunities for over 30 miles of skiing. Hyatt Lake is nearby and offers cabins for rent.
I love this place, and it's a must-visit winter destination for anyone visiting Southern Oregon. |
