Noon Creek CCC Camp Project F-41 Company #2948 1933-1939
Kind of tricky to visit as most of the site in now on Federal FS land that is closed to the public. It's where they keep their horses and store equipment.
FS friend told me that if I hike down Noon Creek and around to the site that would be OK ..... and that is what I did.
Very cool to see this mountain CCC site that was also used during World War II to house German prisoners-of-war.
No structures, but lots of old concrete foundations, bricks & some metal artifacts spread across the length of a football field.
Took a coffee break under a juniper tree and was surprised by a coati coming in from the creek down below. Chased it for a bit for a pic, but that never works. I did though get a few nice pics of 3 white-tails on the way out - 2 spikes and 1 doe.
Awesome morning history hike and back home in time for NFL kick-off!
