Paid $2 to ferry across the river and rode out and back on the Mississippi River Trail along the West Bank. I was a bit annoyed to find that the paved trail turned to gravel for the last 4 miles downstream, so I rode the return trip on the adjacent road instead of enduring that in both directions.
Near the Chalmette ferry I saw a spectacular meteor blaze across the sky for several seconds. Not bad for the middle of a big city!
When I reached the upstream end of the trail at Gretna, I calculated the time for the ferry back and realized I had time to duck into the Gretna River Shack for a beer. I still can't get used to the concept of walking into or out of any establishment anytime with an open container!
If you're in Nola and want to get a few miles of riding or running in, this is a great multi-use path with nice views of the river and city. I recommend it! |
