| no partners | | We were able to fit a quick backpack in Glacier after an Alpine caving trip. The afternoon before we walked into the backcountry office to see what was available. There wasn’t much to choose from that wasn’t a long drive. So we choose the one closest that the ranger said was supposed to be the Campground with the best views in Glacier.
The hike in was filled with wildflowers and huckleberries. I also had Flathead cherries from picking the day before - yum!!!
At camp we stowed our food, stove, and gas canister in the provide bear proof bin. Then we pitched the tent and got water from the snow melt stream.
After a quick break we hiked up to Sue Lake Overlook. This was perhaps one of the best views I’ve seen in my life. We were in the middle of nowhere. Peaks were viewable in 360 degrees. Sue Lake below was a beautiful blue. I thought I was in heaven and did not want to return to camp.
After dinner I was returning to the tent when I saw our camp had a visitor. A Grizzly Bear was grazing and doing his bear thing. We watched him for a while and then it was time for bed.
The next day we hiked out. We made quick work of the hike since we had seen the terrain the day before. From there we drove back to bozeman to fly out the next day. |
