| no partners | | | Hiked with the children to the pools starting around 0930 on a Saturday morning. There was a reptile wildlife display at the parking area in the park that the kids got a real kick out of. We took our time and made it to the pools in about two hours, with the kids (3 months, 6 yrs, and 8 yrs) not complaining a bit. Ate lunch and swam/jumped at the pools for a few hours before heading down the hill around three. There were various types of woody plants/shrubs in bloom and numerous wildflowers (including some spectacular poppies) all the way from the desert floor to the pools. The bees were so plentiful that the air was literally abuzz with their efforts. No other wildlife aside from the usual birds and lizards. There were frogs in the pools, according to the girls, though I saw none. The pools were clear and cool, with plenty of opportunity for wading and swimming. One hole in particular was very busy with teens from a local church group jumping from the surrounding walls. There were also some college kids who thought they were out of sight wearing... less... than "appropriate" clothing. An exellent hike, and a good day on the mountain. We're going to do this again in a week or so, possibly up to the pass. |
