Decided to skip work and play in the rain. Sycamore had flashed to over 7000cfs, and with the 88 closed at both ends restricting access to the Supes, up the Beeline was the way to go.

FS LEOs were locking all the gates off the highway, but some roads are still ungated. Checked out a few of the drainages. Nothing too crazy, but some were uncrossable. Ran into @outdoor_lover and chatted for a few minutes.

Waited an hour for the water to recede on Mesquite before heading up to the ridge for sunset. Came all the way back down after a crazy hailstorm only to be thwarted by that last crossing at Mesquite. Another truck tried it and failed. Could have probably waited a couple hours and made it across, but with no certainty more rain wouldn't keep it running strong, turned around and drove back up and over to Tonto Basin. A 75-mile detour that took two hours. Making smart decisions! Yay.
