Got down to Parker Canyon Lake the night before, and squeezed into the only available campsite (turns out all the military people from Ft Huachuca like to take advantage of their holiday, and they like to stay up late partying). Didn't get much sleep that first night.
Headed out on the trail in the morning. Most of passage 2 is in that high desert transitional zone with lots of juniper. Couple of nice views over the valley when you're on the ridgelines. A few spots, like Pauline Canyon, had ponderosas, which was an unexpected treat.
Water was becoming a bit of a concern as we topped the ridge before hitting the end of passage 2 (Canelo Pass), and my buddy rolled an ankle, so we decided to head down the road to the main highway and call for a ride.
Ended up being a 17 mile day instead of 30, but a fun weekend overall, and the campground was a lot less crazy the 2nd night. |
