| no partners | | First time on the Hermit Trail, and it is beautiful! The trail is obviously not as smooth as the Bright Angel trail, but it seemed in pretty good shape to me for being an 'unmaintained' trail. My guidebook and map both described a 'rock slide' section of the trail, but there was really only one boulder I needed to use my hands to help ascend.
Left Hermit's Rest trailhead around 5am and didn't see anyone else until I got to Monument Creek campsite. Spent two nights there and visited Granite Rapids on the day in between, which was beautiful but hot, though the frigid river water did help. The hike out really wasn't that bad until the last 2.5 miles after Santa Maria spring which is very steep.
The Grand Canyon always keeps me coming back for more! |
