I actually did this hike in reverse starting at the Pine Trailhead and ending at Hardscrabble Road since it is closer to our little cabin from there.
I got on the Oak Spring Trail #16 around 7:00 am and was delighted with the quiet, peaceful trek after crossing Highway 87 / Beeline. When I reached Bradshaw Meadow, I was greeted by 15 or 20 Turkey Buzzards in the dead Pine trees there making me wonder what I was getting myself into, but, they just leisurly flew away as I passed beneath them. As I hiked above the Narrows, I started seeing evidence of the neighborhood Elk and I did see a White Tail that was way too fast for me and my camera.
I stopped at a high point lookout that gave me a nice view of the spring below, one I had not seen before. After a break at the nearby geocache, I found some fantastic wild Columbine flowers growing in the spring that was running nicely after a recent rain.
I started my way up and out on Walnut Trail #251 which is one my favorite trails in Pine stopping only to munch on a wild apple off of a creekside tree.
In all, this was a very enjoyable hike for me with lots of diverse scenery and just the right mix of strenuous and leisure hiking. :D
