| no partners | | I've known about this hill for a few years. It's one of those hikes that you do when you are in the area and finish another hike early. Tim and I decided it was time to hike Ditch Mt on the backside of the Santa Ritas. This hike was not far from our route back and only a few miles out of the way, so we decided to go for it. This is basically just a hill with some steep areas. The dirt roads wind around but do not go to the top. We followed a few dirt roads to get up as high as we could and then got on the ridge from the Southeast side of the peak and hiked Northwest up to the peak. There was a registry at the top that had recent entries from 2017 and 2021. There were some nice views of some of the high peaks in the Santa Rita mountains including Mt Wrightson and some unknown lower peaks on the far Northern edge of the range. We could see some of the mining operation and buildings below.
We started our hike around 5:20 pm and reached the summit in 25 minutes. On the way down, we took a little longer because we decided to explore more of the roads and a few mine tailing areas. We saw some nice blue copper up there with signs of mining activity. Not sure if this area is actively mined any longer.
