| partners | | I've seen pictures of The Devils Postpile and always wanted to visit. What and amazing and intruiging place! It's just a short 1/2 mile walk from the trailhead (get there early to get a parking spot!), then you're presented with this huge cliff face of hexagon columns that are breaking off, leaving huge rock columns scattered below the cliff face. While you can't climb on the fallen columns, you can climb to the top of the rock, where you'll find that the entire rock mound is made up of these columns. I'm going to research it further, but I don't believe there's any place else like this in the US (maybe the world?). This National Monument is just west of Mammoth Mountain Village, a great place to shop or grab a snack after your adventure! |
