| no partners | | | After exploring Rock Creek Park, it was time to hike up to the Mosier Creek Waterfall, which I stumbled upon doing the Rock Creek research in my truck. Turns out the parking lot for it is through the Totem Park next to where the Taco Truck was. (BTW, the Taco Truck was excellent and it appears to be in a permanent spot.) I parked and walked Historic Hwy 30 over the historic bridge and was at the TH for the hike. This is actually the Mosier Plateau Trail which goes a bit longer and higher to an overlook, but the falls are along the way. Another seed brush for your boots at this TH. Relatively short hike to a Pioneer Cemetery and then you were hiking along a small gorge where Mosier Creek travels after the falls. There was a bench and small overlook when the falls came into sight, but the grass was high and the gorge was deep enough you couldn't see the whole fall. It's actually a set of two falls and apparently it's a popular local swimming hole in the summer. I did scramble down between the two falls for a few minutes and just enjoyed the view and the solitude. I ran into a couple of people on the trail, but they were headed up to the plateau. I got the feeling that they were locals using the trail for their exercise hike. The day was waning and it was time to go. I would not make camp again until after dark, but it was a good day overall, in spite of the exhausting wind in places. But unlike people at the west end of the Gorge, I stayed relatively warm and totally dry. |
