This route is an out-and-back five-mile hike on a portion of Williams Peak Trail #738. As of May 16, 2025, there doesn't appear to be an official route for Williams Peak Trail, so I'm planning to upload the entire trail soon. The start and end of this hike was at the northeast end of Williams Peak Trail at the White Rock Trailhead on Thumb Butte Road west of the Thumb Butte Recreation Area parking lot. Thumb Butte is west of Prescott, Arizona and is depicted on the seal of both Yavapai County and Prescott, the county seat. Thumb Butte Road is paved up to the White Rock Trailhead, so access is easy.

Just before the turn around point, a couple switchbacks climb the side of the gully which contains Miller Creek, according to the map. Prior to heading up Miller Creek, the trail is gently undulating. The trail passes through Ponderosa pines, at least until approaching the top of the gully. There were woodpeckers drumming on hollow tree trunks and I saw what I believe was a great-horned owl flying below the trail. After climbing the side of the gully, the vistas open up in chaparral. While hiking through the pines and after climbing the side of the gully, the Sierra Prieta are visible at times in the distance (see photos). According to the map at the White Rock Trailhead, the southwest end of Williams Peak Trail is in the Sierra Prieta.
