| no partners | | | A beautiful season to be wandering the lower desert. Both summits involved some careful granite boulder scrambling that really can't be avoided. Thin Mountain seemed like finer, whiter crystals, where Hayden Peak was a grungier coarse brown with more plentiful quartz dikes. Each area has petroglyphs, one happened upon unexpectedly, the other was signed with an accompanying trail camera. Teddy-bear cholla were the more plentiful Cylindropuntia around TM but HP also had a more unique pencil-cholla forest on its south side. There's definitely an anomalous vegetation dichotomy exhibiting now between the north and south aspects of our desert peaks. SR 187 is under construction so parking's a bit challenging for HP. Not that this area is on anyone's radar, but Sundays would currently be better until they're finished. |
