| no partners | | Wanted to check out Coffee Flat Canyon since I had not seen any trips up there. I took a nice ridgeline over and dropped in. It's narrow, then kind of cool for a bit, then spreads wide with grass, rocks, brush and washes mixed in. Looks like access to the eastern ridge is doable but I wanted to get out before it warmed up.
I saw one hiker as I got back to the trail. She looked like she had the eye of the gecko so I let her pass. We talked a little and I dropped back to not be a lurker. I generally keep a decent pace but she dropped out of view by Dutchman trail.
On Dutchman I picked it up to my get it done pace and by the time we were climbing up the last saddle she was in sight. I stayed back to avoid stalker status but was happy to realize I can still move out if I want to.
Coffee Flat trail is a bit rocky at the start but doesn't compare to Y-bar. The off trail was nice until I stepped on the boulder that rolled on to my foot but I didn't have to chew off my leg so it's all good. Cool area that I will probably return to if we get a cold day sometime.
