| no partners | | | Cold but nice morning for a hike. Crew was out on the initial section of the trail doing some improvements. Snow and ice in the lower sections made for slippery going. The first cliff section with the cable hand rail was the worse. Covered totally in ice. Even cable was covered in ice but it did provide some security from falling off the edge! After that section there were fewer snow patches and the trail was in pretty good condition. Tried to take the side trail to lower PunchBowl falls but met a guy on his way back that said it was impossible to get around the corner and see the falls unless you wanted to wade through the creek. In the summer time, probably do-able but not something to do in 30 degree weather in January! Continued up the Eagle Creek Trail to the Punch Bowl falls overlook. Very nice. Lots of water at this time of the year. Definitely a hike to do again later in the spring or summer when you we wouldn't have to contend with ice and snow. |
