| no partners | | This is a repeat of a lasso hike I did in 05 or 06. Shawn came along for the fun. In at the Bursum TH to Redstone Park, one of my favorite places in the Gila. Then up whitewater creek and it's many switchbacks to Hummingbird Saddle. We had rain along the way but it let up in time to get the tents up under the big pines and spruce at a little over 10K. It rained some more and made dinner tent bound but then cleared up and dried out overnight. Back on the Crest trail then took the Apache Holt trail, great views, over to Spruce Creek Saddle. Made a stopover at the Apache Fire Cabin, it was very neat and clean and I was impressed; it's been a mess other times I've been there. The several springs along the way all had adequate flow.
From Spruce Creek saddle the return to Redstone park along Lipsey canyon was faint out of the saddle but became well defined later. Lots of treefall to cross. The trail dives very steeply down to Whitewater creek, it's a knee killer. We got to Redstone Park very early but I wanted to take pictures and hangout and Shawn, being the gentleman he is, agreed. I got my pics but then we had a whopping thunder lightning storm and hard rain about an hour. Very humid and rain forest like. A good night with a short walk out in the morning. Hopefully Shawn will chime in with the GPS track and mileage and elevation and all that.
Great trip, great company and as always the Gila Wilderness is such a wonderful place, that I feel is an honor to visit. |
