In the end, its a very basic trail that heads downhill from the trailhead/parking lot and meanders for 1/4 mile to a fork, where you can go left or right to meet the Arizona Trail in .4 miles. This is where the loop comes in. Whichever way you go, you'll end up back here in .8 miles (assuming you don't leave the loop and take the AZT) and track back the original 1/4 mile to the TH. Hart Prairie has a very moderate grade, and this trail is built with way too many switchbacks when a simple straight uphill hike would have sufficed, and not been particularly difficult. That said, its suitable for families or inexperienced hikers who just want to enjoy ducking in and out of an Aspen grove and enjoying the views and openness of Hart Prairie. |
