The eastern half of the lake was closed due to Bald Eagles nesting in the area, so had to settle for walking on the western half of the lake, starting on the north side. Surprisingly, I kept my pace slow, noting the trail was not really a trail, but a black ribbon of asphalt meandering through the trees following above the lake. I was trying to recall if the west trail was paved but could not. The feel in the air is now open as well. Many trees cut down due to the bark beetle attack during the pass couple of years. Still, I see many folks hiking, picnicing, kids laughing and running, folks fishing, and boating; hear dogs barking, ducks raising a ruckus as they paddle around the lake, and even a goose honking near the boat ramp. Smell of charcoal grills cooking late lunch filter through the trees. A pleasant walk. Nonetheless, I felt a bit of sadness as I walked back to my Jeep thinking we had another mild winter with very little moisture in the form of snow. We are still drying up,,,,, |
