We started at the TH on the east side of the lake and make our way up the hill. The trail goes north, and then curls west and then south, back to the intersection of Saguaro and Palisades Blvds. There is a section where the trail ends and you have to follow the road to the west until you get to the last section. Within the first 0.3 miles you reach the high point of the trail, which gives 360 degree views of the lake, Four Peaks, the Mazatzals, McDowells, etc. The length of the actual trail one way is only about 1.6 miles. Our extra mileage was from walking around Fountain Lake getting back to the car, stopping at the monkey bars along the way for the kids. During the portion of our hike around the lake, I ran into pace w/his family, who I had hiked with only once before, a year ago to the day almost on our post-Thanksgiving Brown's Peak hike. Funny how coincidences like that happen. Grabbed a nice lunch and the new Mexican restaurant in FH on the way back home. |
